Launching a business is quite an endeavor. Launching a food business is reserved for those craving madness in their lives.

This blog should have been started last fall when the ideas first took hold. So many favorable comments about a couple of food items led me from the needs of one individual to the consideration of the needs of thousands of individuals. It was such a weighty thought since we were not strangers to the food industry.
Our last pursuit involved several thousand chickens and anyone we could convince to help us when dealing with all of them. Surely cookies and brownies were much more benign.
And yet, our first day at the farmer's market was much better received than any of us anticipated. "Can my diabetic mother have these?" one woman asked. "I believe so," I replied. "My father is diabetic and that's why we started this."
"I can't have grains," another one tells me. "These don't have grains," I answer, realizing an entirely different group of individuals can eat our desserts.
It's interesting to hear the stories people have to tell. So many have health issues or concerns that center on food. It's also interesting how many people recognize the impact food has on health.
The health concerns are so acute, we've consistently sold out at market for the last several weeks. It's caused me to re-think how we're distributing, baking, and marketing. We'd always intended to sell online - now I realize that should be our focus so others around the country can have access to what we offer.

We've had a great month visiting with everyone at the farmer's market. I truly enjoy the stories people tell me about their food experiences. If you have a story you'd like to share, please email me. I'd like to have a section on the website where I can post them for others to learn from.
Here are some of the stories and comments:
"Thank you for making a product just for me. My doctor has put me on a diet that doesn't include wheat and my choices became so limited."
"Wow! The Chocolate Kikas are amazing! Thanks for making such a great product!"
"I had been trying to lose weight but sweets were my biggest downfall. After eating your desserts over the last 6 weeks I've lost 8 pounds. The best part is regular desserts seem so sweet to me now, I can't eat the same amount as before. Thanks for helping me."
It never occurred to me I would be thanked for making a dessert. I also never realized how limited our food choices are. Personally, we cook and bake most of the things we eat and rarely eat out or buy prepared foods. Not everyone has the time or ability to go through so much work yet they need a healthy, nutritious snack or sweet to fill a need.
So please tell me your stories so others can learn how to improve their lives by taking control of their food.
